Image description

One of several reproductions of original paintings presented to Prince Albert following the Great Exhibition of 1851. Dickinson’s Comprehensive Pictures contained 55 colored lithographic reproductions of works by Joseph Nash, Louis Haghe, and David Roberts. The Great Exhibition was organized by Prince Albert and other members of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce to celebrate the British Empire’s advances in technology and the event is considered the first World’s Fair. To house it, the Crystal Palace, an extraordinary structure with over a million feet of glass, was built in Hyde Park.
