Image description

Enfield .38 inch No 2 Mk I service revolver, 1943 (c). Manufactured by Albion Motor Company, 1943, factory reconditioned 1952 at Fazakerley Factory. The continued issue of a revolver introduced in 1932 shows the paucity of equipment available to the post-war British Army. Browning self-loading pistols were available and had been used by Special Forces during World War Two (1939-1945) but it did not become standard issue in the Army until after 1957. Revolvers were little used on active service except for police duties. Officers carried rifles or automatic weapons on war patrols.
