Photograph of A.T.S. girls preparing to work with A.A. (Anti Aircraft) Guns, 1941. During World War Two many single women and childless widows were conscripted to war service and offered a choice of the armed forces, industry or Land Army. Many of those opting for the forces went into the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service), the largest women’s force.
