The Saqqara tablet, New Kingdom (limestone)

This is a very important historical piece in the museum, as it helps us to reconstruct the order of the kings of Egypt. The tablet originally listed the names of the pharaohs from King Anedjib of the 1st Dynasty to Ramesses II of the 19th Dynasty; today forty-seven royal cartouches are still preserved on the piece. It is of similar importance to the Palermo Stone, the Turin papyri, and the Karnak and Abydos kings-lists as a source for the study of Egyptian history. Found in in the tomb of Tjenry (or Tjuneroy), an official ("chief lector priest" and "Overseer of Works on All Royal Monuments") of the pharaoh Ramesses II.
