The End of a Long and Prosperous Reign. In the centuries immediately preceding the Muhammadan conquest the Chandellas of Mahoba and Khajurahu were one of the most powerful Rajput ruling families. The name that has come down most prominently to modern times is that of Raja Dhanga, who ascended the throne at fifty-five and reigned with success forty-six years. In 999, when over 100 years old, he drowned himself at the confluence of the Ganges and Jamna at Prag (Allahabad).
