A full-length portrait of a young girl, seated on a bench draped with a rug by a tree, wearing a short brown velvet dress with a lighter brown sash, lace cuffs and deep collar; light brown auburn hair. She has a black and white cat on her lap, a Maltese terrier beside her. Natural landscape background in muted colours. Alice Frances Theodora Wythes, Marchioness of Bristol (1875-1957). Daughter of George Wythes of Copped Hall, Essex, by his second wife, Rachel Henty, daughter of Robert Henty and the granddaughter and heiress of the great Victorian railway contractor, George Wythes. She married Frederick William Fane Hervey, 4th Marquess of Bristol (1863-1951) on 8 December 1896 and had two daughters, Lady Marjorie Hervey (1898-1967) who married Lord John Francis Ashley Erskine and Lady Phyllis Hervey (1899-1990) who married Captain Duncan MacRae. She gave a large endowment for the upkeep of Ickworth, which had been accepted by the Treasury in lieu of death duties on the death of her husband in 1951 Ickworth, Suffolk (Accredited Museum)
