Rocks in the foreground looking out across the sea, large skyscape. In the 1860s Brett moved away from landscapes to concentrate on coastal scenes and seascapes, especially the rocky coasts of Cornwall, Devon and Pembrokeshire. Nevertheless, the brilliant colouring and highly wrought finish of his earlier work continued to be characteristic, as can be seen in this two paintings and its companion.
