Collection of the Duke of Northumberland, Alnwick Castle, Alnwick, Northumberland
oil on canvas
Image description

The subject of the dying Clorinda baptised by Tancred is taken from Torquato Tasso's Cerusalemme Liberata, Canto XII, stanze 67-69. Another version of Tancred and Clorinda by Badalocchio is in the Galleria Estense Modena. This picture shows a greater debt to Annibale Carracci and was probably painted in Rome while the Alnwick picture was probably painted after the artist's return to Emilia in 1609
