The First Lady of Fine Art
Published 03/01/2014
We are delighted to announce that our founder Harriet Bridgeman received her CBE medal from Buckingham Palace on March 4, 2014. See official photos from the ceremony below.
"I am greatly honoured and regard it as an extraordinary privilege to be rewarded for a career which has allowed me to be so closely associated with the Arts.
It is also a great tribute to Bridgeman Images and to the enormous contribution of all who have worked here over the years."
- Viscountess Bridgeman, MA, CBE, FRSA
We are proud to announce that our founder and Chairman, Harriet Bridgeman, has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her services to the arts. The honour is awarded to individuals for personal bravery, achievement, or service to the United Kingdom and the British Overseas Territories. She attended the Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace with her family on Tuesday, March 04, 2014.
Harriet Bridgeman founded The Bridgeman Art Library in 1972, which provides both a central source of fine art images for reproduction as well as generating additional income for museums and galleries. In 2006, she founded the The Artists’ Collecting Society (ACS) of which she is the managing director, to collect royalties for artists under the European Union's Resale Right Directive.
Harriet was awarded the European Women of Achievement Award in the Arts (1997) and International Business Woman of the Year (2005). She represents ACS on both the board of the British Copyright Council and is also the ACS representative for CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers.
