'My interest in mixed media is well established from a career in the conservation of paintings, furniture, picture frames and polychrome surfaces; to specialist paint effects and more recently as an artist. 'My interest in mixed media is well established from a career in the conservation of paintings, furniture, picture frames and polychrome surfaces; to specialist paint effects and more recently as an artist. Such attention to detail is borne out in my graphic, monochrome and detailed drawing, where rendition is generally representational. However, as well as capturing what I have seen through shape, light, shade, contrast, layering, collage and mood, my drawings often serve as templates from which, through experimentation, “the unexpected breakthrough” can be achieved.

I appreciate the written word and poetry which are “catalysts for invention”. As Leonardo da Vinci said, “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen”. Similarly Keith Haring, “Art should be something liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further”. I enjoy the unpredictability of the process of creating art as well as the physical process of seeing, responding, mixing pigments (acrylic) all culminating in a language of “marks”. My work reflects a wide-range of artistic influences from the Sienese School, Dutch Masters, Fauves, Impressionists, Post-war English painters, Abstract Expressionists…'
