They will be joining with 23 other iconic British works, including paintings by John Constable and Grayson Perry, to be displayed on thousands of posters and billboards across the country.

Four other BACS artists were nominated: Lucian FreudPaul NashCRW Nevinson and Stanley Spencer.

Eileen Agar

Eileen Agar (1899–1991) was a British painter and photographer associated with the Surrealist movement. She was the only British woman invited to exhibit at the International Surrealist Exhibition at the Burlington Galleries, London in 1936.

There, she debuted her famous surrealist hat, Ceremonial Hat for Eating Bouillabaisse (right), which became an occuring theme of humour and high drama which ran through both her life and work.

Stanhope Alexander Forbes

Stanhope Forbes (1857 - 1947) is often considered the founding father of the influential Newlyn school of painters. He was born in Dublin and later moved to London with his family. He attended the Royal Academy in 1878 and was a contemporary of Arthur Hacker and Henry Herbert La Thangue.

In 1884 he moved to Newlyn, Cornwall, and soon became a leading figure in a growing artist colony.
