Dive into the Jerwood Collection which features artworks by Modern and Contemporary British artists
The purpose of the Jerwood Collection of Modern and Contemporary British art is to give public access to a privately-owned collection and enhance the understanding and enjoyment of 20th and 21st century British art.
The Jerwood Foundation was set up in 1977 by its Chairman, Alan Grieve for John Jerwood, an international businessman and philanthropist. Since John Jerwood’s death in 1991, Alan Grieve has continued to develop and enhance the role of the Foundation within the arts in the UK.
The first purchase for the Jerwood Collection was made in 1993 and since then nearly 300 works have been added. The Collection continues to grow with new acquisitions and donations under the direction of Lara Wardle.
The most notable featured artists of the Jerwood Collection include Craigie Aitchinson, Barbara Hepworth, Paul Nash, Ben Nicholson, John Piper, Stanley Spencer and Walter Sickert.
