EGYPT “The Eastern Colossus of Abu Simbel” (profile). The colossal monuments built by the civilization of ancient Egypt have been a destination for tourist trips since the end of the 19th century, when the passion for archaeological discoveries exceeded the close circle of staff to the works, coming to maintain also for the common people of the charm that still holds it. French journalist, writer, academic and photographer Maxime Du Camp (8 February 1822-8 February 1894) allowed himself to be captured by such charm, and made a trip to Egypt with his friend Gustave Flaubert visiting and photographing the most famous archelogical sites.
