Landscape with Fishermen and Sportsmen

Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi, known as Il Bolognese (Bologna 1606 – Rome 1680). Oil painting on canvas, Landscape with Fishermen and Sportsmen by Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi (Bologna 1606 – Rome 1680). A fisherman with a net, a huntsman with a gun dog and dead game and other figures in a romantic landscape and classical architecture. An unusually large and figural work for this painter, who was best known for his pure landscapes in the style of Carracci. He spent most of his career in Rome but from 1648-51 he was in Paris, helping to decorate the palaces of Cardinal Mazarin and the Louvre. Hinton Ampner, Hampshire (Accredited Museum)
