John sits half-length at a table, facing left but looking out at the spectator. Beneath the red cloak worn over his right shoulder, an animal skin tunic refers to his ascetic life in the desert. The lamb, his attribute, is placed on the table in front of him on the left. He points towards the left with the index finger of his right hand. Based on a similar picture with an adult John the Baptist, now in the Museo di Capodimonte, Naples. Stourhead, Wiltshire (Accredited Museum)
