Oil painting on canvas, Prince Charles Louis, Elector Palatine of the Rhine and Duke of Bavaria (1617–1680) after Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641), 18th century. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, standing against dark background, some foliage and clouded sky on left. He has long curly, dark brown hair, and wears a white bodice with deep lace cuffs and collar showing under a faded red tunic with sleeve openings, and matching breeches. He has a short buff coloured tunic coat and a breastplate with sword belt across his right shoulder. A green ribbon with a medallion is around his neck. His left hand rests on his sword hilt; his right hand rests on Field Marshall's baton. His helmet and gauntlets are on the left. Ickworth, Suffolk (Accredited Museum)
