Francois I weapon knight by Bayard (16th century). On 20 January 1515, Francois I appointed Bayard Lieutenant General of the Dauphiné. At Marignan, on the evening of victory, Francois I wanted to take “the order of chivalry from his hand”. Thus, the next morning, 15 September 1515, the prescription companies were gathered together and Francois I, at the age of twenty, was knighted by the one who best achieved the ideal of courage and loyalty in the Middle Ages.
