Description
Thomas Hardy church: engraving of Saint Michael's, Stinsford, (early 13th century) outside Dorchester, Dorset. The English novelist (1840-1928) was baptised here in June 1840, lived nearby and worshiped here when young. His heart is buried in the graveyard, along with his 2 wives, Emma (d. 1912) and Florence (d. 1937), and many of his family. The Church is the 'Mellstock Church' described in 'Under the Greenwood Tree'.
