Alias of Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935), Anglo-Irish writer and soldier known as Lawrence of Arabia; became advisor to Emir Faisal (1883-1933) at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919; enlisted in the RAF in 1922 as John Hume Ross but was discharged so he enlisted in the Royal Tank Corps in 1923 as T.E. Shaw and then re-joined the RAF in 1925 keeping the name;
