Image description

The undulating contours of this limestone sculpture give rise to bulges and depressions that, from certain angles, suggest the appearance of a figure in motion. Beginning in the 1920s Arp became celebrated for sensuous, biomorphic forms that hover between abstraction and figuration. To him, they represented 'a natural process of condensation and solidification of something that has grown'. This sculpture, whose title refers to the female reproductive organ found in flowers, evokes organic form and continuous transformation in nature.
