Bridgeman Images is proud to represent the Historic England Archive - a fascinating collection containing photographs, drawings and reportage documenting the construction of some of England's brilliant structures. Moreover, the collection's 12 million photographs, drawings, reports and publications offer an insight into England's social and political history as well as its archaeological past.
After a century of collecting, Historic England Archive holds major collections of national importance, including photographs, drawings, plans and documents. Its main focus is archaeology, architecture, social and local history, and of particular note are its extensive collections of historic and contemporary aerial photography.
Historic Acquisitions
The Archive includes collections and items acquired from many different organisations, including government (like the Ministry of Works and the RAF), company archives (like John Laing plc and Woolworths) and commercial photographers (like Aerofilms, Bedford Lemere and John Gay).
Artwork, Photography and more
The archive actively collects both historic and contemporary material, as well as photography and artworks created by or for Historic England. This results in an eclectic mix, covering the social history and built environment of England. Samples of all of this vast wealth of content are being made available through Bridgeman Images.
