She sits, half length, full front, leaning her head on her right hand, the elbow raised to shoulder level. Her head turned slightly to right front, her left arm across the body, the hand holding the top of a lute. Chestnut hair falling over her left shoulder; white chemise; black tunic, with two black strings tied across the stomacher; full white sleeves. Foliage behind her; right of centre, a mountain peak and spired tower on a rock, against the sky. Two lovers embracing in right mid-distance. Palma Vecchio used an almost identical female type in a similar pose in his Portrait of Three Ladies of 1518-1520 in the Gemaldegalerie, Dresden (inv. no. 189)
