Clip from 1970 film focussing on the history of the City of London - the Square Mile - its economic growth, institutions, administration, buildings and future. The film illustrates the major part taken by local government in the physical and social redevelopment of London. Made by Chess Valley Films for the City of London Corporation, it features a commentary by Michael Aspel. Shots include: the commodity markets, warehouses of fur, ivory tusks and Persian carpets. Hudson's Bay Company at Beaver House, the PLA (Port of London Authority) warehouses on Cutler Street.
