Video description

The film opens with shots from the Circle Line dock on the Hudson River in New York where the company of the same name organizes boat excursions. Then, we watch footage of passengers who are inside the boat and the Manhattan building structure alongside the river. Behind the waving U.S. flag, the Empire State Building stands imposing with the 102-story Art Deco architecture which for 42 years made it the city's tallest skyscraper. Afterwards, we watch footage from the World Trade Center where the Twin Towers broke the Empire State Building record in 1973 when their construction was completed. In the film we can see the last floors of one of the towers that are still under construction. Behind and on the side of the twin towers, we see the Woolworth Building, a new skyscraper of Gothic architecture by architect Cass Gilbert and a little further down we see Ellis Island, a center for the immigrants, with the famous statue depicting the goddess Liberty. From the Statue of Liberty with the raised torch, to the World Trade Center and from there to the Brooklyn Bridge where we see the top of the American International Building, just before the Manhattan Bridge. Lastly, we see panoramic shots of Manhattan's wide range of architecture, followed by the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Skyscraper and the film closes with shots of Manhattan's bustling streets, the city’s buildings as well as moments from everyday life of its citizens.
