Description
Clip 1 from the 1968 film 'Navy in Focus' (Edition 7) by the Department of Defence (Royal Australian Navy Public Relations), documenting the work of the Australian naval forces during the Vietnam War. In this clip is the Defoe shipbuilding Company, Bay City Michigan USA, 16 December 1967. Commission day for the RAN new guided missile destroyer HMAS Brisbane. Among guests was Rear Admiral Roy Benson USN. Admiral Benson hands over to J K Waller nephew of Captain Hector Waller who went down with HMAS Perth in the Sunda Strait in 1942. Captain Alan Willis reads the ship's commissioning warrant.
