Chemical Laboratories, Apparatus, 1700-1849 Brass weights used by Wollaston, c 1800. There are ink and pencil inscriptions in the case. William Hyde Wollaston (1766-1828) was a notable English chemist who researched into both chemistry and optics. In particular, his research into platinum resulted in his discovery of two new metals, palladium (1803) and rhodium (1804). ©SSPL/Science Museum
