Bridges, Arch 'Aylesford, Kent', c 1890. A photograph of a bridge over the River Medway in Aylesford, Kent, taken by Colonel Joseph Gale (c 1835-1906) in about 1890. The fourteenth-century bridge casts its arched reflection on the tranquil water, a moored boat visible on the right of the image. The tower of Saints Peter and Paul's church and village houses can be seen in the distance. Joseph Gale specialised in naturalistic photographs of rural life and figures in landscapes.
