'Hull-London Royal Mail Meeting a Travelling Chariot on the Road', by Charles Cooper Henderson (1803-1845), about 1835. Oil painting showing two carriages travelling past each other. The carriage on the right is the Hull to London Royal Mail with four brown horses, four men in black top hats and brown coats riding at the front and a man in a red coat standing at the back, leaning on the luggage on the roof. The other coach is yellow with four white horses, the far two being ridden by men in yellow coats, with blue waistcoats and top hats. A man stands on top at the back of the carriage in a blue coat, whilst two children can be seen running at the side. In the bottom left hand corner is a man sat beside a tent with a donkey and dog.To the far right in the background is a thatched cottage. Oil on canvas.
