Description

Thomas Bewick (1753-1828); This picture shows the North East wood-engraver and artist Thomas Bewick at the age of seventy three. It was painted from a picture by the Berwick-upon-Tweed artist Thomas Sword Good, and reproduces Good's detailed style. Guthrie's copy shows that Bewick's reputation continued to be very high in the North East fifty years after his death. Sir James Guthrie was associated with the Glasgow School painters of the late 19th century;
