An Unknown French Lady holding Flowers and a Red Squirrel
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown French Lady holding Flowers and a Red Squirrel nibbling Nuts, French School, previously school of Nicolas Mignard d'Avignon (1606-68). A three-quarter-length portrait, seated, her right elbow resting on table holding up the ribbon attached to red squirrel which sits nibbling a nut. Left hand holds bunch of flowers in lap. Wears red decollete dress with lace round neck and at cuffs of white under sleeves. Green cloak with gold border. Dark hair with bunch of flowers in it. Plain dark ground. Plain gilt border with corner reliefs of interweaving foliage and pierced foliage surround.
