one of a series of eight saints and prophets in the Somerset Room, originally made for a devotional cabinet. John the baptist is shown full-length, turned to the right, barefooted and bare-chested, wearing a sheepskin loin cloth reaching to below the knees. In his left hand he holds a lamb and in his right hand a staff with the words ECCE AGNUS DEI wrapped round it on a banderole. The background is of a wooded landscape beside a river.
