Small plain interior with low ceiling containing a young woman seated upright in a single iron bedstead among white sheets, with red striped robe and dark bobbed hair, looking over at a black nurse in a low chair, wearing an apron and holding a new born baby in white robe on a white pillow on her lap. Behind them at the bottom of the room is a panelled wooden chest standing on white and blue ceramic pedestal stands with a framed print and ornamental clock on top, while on a table top below is a ewer jug standing in a white bowl. On the right side of the room is a metal stand for a white and blue ceramic bath with a container and lid in the same style standing below on a pink rug. A framed icon of Jesus is hung on the wall over the bed. Signed and dated bottom right.
