Image description

Settle of green-stained ashwood decorated with a beaten lead panel depicting three peacocks, and with two upright panels of cream linen, each with a blue stencilled design. Settle designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and made by J. & W. Guthrie, Glasgow, 1895. Lead panel possibly by Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. Exhibited with the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society, 1896, and later given to John Macdonald of Dunglass Castle, Bowling, Dunbartonshire. Linen panels replaced with copies around 1990.
