Men, women and children pose with guns, ducks, swans and several wallabies near Christchurch, around 1915. In the foreground a small girl holds a duck decoy. The many shotguns visible are double-barrelled. As well as allowing two shots before reloading, double-barrelled guns can have a different choke on each barrel – so a wide spray of pellets can be used on a nearby bird, while a narrower spray pattern will bring down more distant birds.
