Johannes Eckstein

German sculptor, 1735-1817

Eckstein and his family emigrated to the United States in 1793, and settled in Philadelphia. He was the parent of several children who were artists, although scholarship is cloudy as to whether he was the father of John Eckstein (active from 1787, died 1838). He died in Cuba shortly after arriving there.
