Mrs. Ryie Yoshizawa and class of women students at table, looking at fashion magazines and patterns. Students are: Satoko Oka, Chizuko Karnii, Takako Nakanishi, Kikiyo Yamasuchi, Masako Kimochita, Mitsugo Fugi, Mie Mio, Chiye Kawase, and Miyeko Hoshozike. Ansel Easton Adams (1902 – 1984) was an American photographer, best known for his black-and-white photographs of the American West. During part of his career, he was hired by the US Government to record life in the West. Manzanar is most widely known as the site of one of ten camps where over 110,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in California's Owens Valley between the towns of Lone Pine to the south and Independence to the north, it is approximately 230 miles (370 km) northeast of Los Angeles.
