Paola Fumagalli, Marketing Manager

What's your role at Bridgeman?

My current job title is Marketing Manager but I'm also involved in sales, IT, Footage and Bridgeman Studio. I started at Bridgeman in 2008 as a receptionist and have moved around a lot. Maybe Company Factotum is a good description?

What do you love most about your job?

I love to work (and play) with images and clips. I like to search for content with the idea that I can manipulate most of it. Matching similar content or making it stand out by contrasting it with something completely different is great fun.

What misconceptions do people most commonly have about the archive?

Most people assume that the value of an image or a clip is its originality. What's so great about Bridgeman Images is the craft and care we put into our beloved archive. We source images and clips from museums and professional photographers. Then we create high resolution files and assign metadata and keywords. We match this with knowledge and level of customer service that comes from decades of in-house experience.

So the REAL value behind every single asset in the archive is the people who've worked on it. They are all professionals, all passionate about art.

Pablo Picasso, artist

I come from Lake Como in Italy. When I was studying, I used to find every possible excuse to go to Venice. I would visit the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation to say hello to this artwork, as you would to a friend. And the pleasant surprise of how beautiful this piece never fails me. Over and over and over again.

Japanese Macaque Monkeys enjoying a hot bath, video

I'm a bath rather than shower person. If you're the same, you'll appreciate the perfection of this moment: hot steamy water and fresh snow to cool your head down.

I can't imagine anything more relaxing than this. The monkey nearest the camera seems to share my feelings. So, so jealous of these clever monkeys!

Henri Matisse, artist

This is just so elegant, simple and of a brilliant tone of blue that makes it come alive.

What more can I say? It speaks for itself...

Holly Frean, artist

Holly Frean is one of my favourite Bridgeman Studio artists [link to Studio section]. I love the simplicity, colour and rhythm of the composition created by the series of cards.

I like cards - playing cards, solitaires, tarots. I like the idea of a series that can be combined in a million different games. And, in this case, new images.

Off duty men of the RAAF perform a comedy ballet, 1943

I love this clip. It makes me smile (out loud) every single time I watch it. Priceless.

Johan Lilja, photographic manipulator

I think this image is a bit dark but perfect. Perfect light, perfect fusion of animal and man, perfect composition. I love the colours, the contrasts, the medium.

As I said. Perfect.
