Discover works from the largest privately owned yet publicly accessible collection of Modern British art in the UK
The Ingram Collection of Modern British and Contemporary Art is one of this country’s most significant collections of modern British artworks. It was founded in 2002 by media entrepreneur and philanthropist Chris Ingram, and contains over 650 works, of which the majority are paintings and sculptures by the most important British artists of the twentieth century.
Through an on-going programme of loans to exhibitions, galleries and museums, Chris Ingram ensures wide public access to The Collection. From displays and exhibitions at The Lightbox, the award-winning gallery and museum in Chris’ hometown of Woking, to national and international loans, it is this commitment to make The Ingram Collection widely available that has earned Chris Ingram deserved acclaim as “one of the most active and thoughtful collectors of Modern British Art today.” (Stephen Deuchar CBE, Director, The Art Fund).
Notable artists within the collection include Ruskin Spear, John Armstrong, Tristram Hillier, Leon Underwood, Cyril Power and Lynn Chadwick. Many of the artists whose work is held in the Ingram Collection are represented by Bridgeman for both copyright and reproduction rights. They are also represented by the Artists' Collecting Society which is affiliated to Bridgeman Images for the Artist's Resale Right Royalty.

The Ingram Collection's primary focus is on the art movements which developed in the early and middle decades of the 20th century. It looks at art that responded to the influence of the two World Wars, and artworks in particular which challenged everyday norms. A new and growing element to the Collection is its interest in emerging and contemporary artists. Chris Ingram is particularly supportive of students from the major London art schools, buying work from several recent graduates.
