Hendrick Cornelisz Vroom was a Dutch painter and cartographer born in Haarlem in 1566. He was the son of a sea captain and grew up with a fascination for the sea and ships. Vroom became a skilled painter of marine scenes and landscapes, and his works often depicted ships in battle or at sea. He was also a cartographer and created maps of the Dutch coast and the Mediterranean. Vroom was a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke and worked closely with other Dutch artists of his time, including Hendrick Goltzius and Cornelis van Haarlem.
