Dione Verulam studied history and archaeology at Exeter University, where she graduated and married in the same year. She spent thirty years as a curator of a stately home before turning her attention to art. Inspired by her mother, a bookbinder, Dione discovered her passion for painting after attending a course with her. Despite no formal art training, she formed the Goronbury Group, where she worked with a tutor for many years.
Dione initially focused on stenciling, establishing Verona Stenciling after being asked to work in an office. Her first solo show was at the Fleming Collection, and she later exhibited at galleries like Mount Street, Francis Kyle, and Cricket Fine Art.
Dione’s art is shaped by her travels, home life, and interests, including opera—particularly Wagner’s Ring Cycle, which inspired a series during the lockdown. She lived in a farmhouse for fourteen years, where she had a studio, and now resides in Goronbury, the former home of artist Francis Bacon. ...
