Image description

Italian metalworkers soon began to imitate inlaid metalwork imported from the Mamluk Empire. Classical ornament such as grotesques and lions’ heads, as well as the absence of geometrical patterning, are strong indicators of an Italian origin for this object. The coat of arms in the centre may be that of either the Giustiniani or Sagredo families.
