Image description

One of ten painted to decorate Ca’ Dolfin, Venice, probably shows the capture of Carthage by Cornelius Scipio Aemilianus (Scipio Africanus the Younger) during the Third Punic War in 146 B.C. when the city burned for seventeen days. Probably also an allusion to the recent campaigns of the Venetians against the Turks in the Mediterranean.
