attributed to Girolamo Siciolante, known as Il Sermoneta (Sermoneta c.1521- Rome 1575). Oil painting on panel, The Holy Family with the Infant John the Baptist and Saint Elizabeth, attributed to Girolamo Siciolante, known as Il Sermoneta (Sermoneta c.1521- Rome 1575), circa 1550 and inscribed on reverse: in red (?) circular wax seal on the back: R.C.A/DOG.DI/ROMA ('Republica Cisalpina [as in during the Napoleonic rule over Italy, 1798-1814], Dogana [Customs] di Roma' [and suggests that the painting had been in a Roman, rather than in a Bolognese collection]. A Mannerist painting in the tradition of Raphael or Perino del Vaga.The Madonna at the right in red and yellow robe, with the Christ Child on her lap, reaching out towards John at the left, behind whom is Saint Elizabeth while Saint Joseph is behind the Virgin at the right.
