Private postcard production was legalised in Russia in 1894, and this postcard is from the earliest known series of images to bear censorial markings (18 November 1895). It depicts the Dormition Cathedral in the Kremlin, the Saviour Gates, leading to Red Square, and the Red Gate. Printed by I.N. Kushnerev and Co., and retailed exclusively by D. Zaks and Yarres in Moscow.
