Paula Rego (1935-2022) was a Portuguese artist known for her figurative paintings and prints. Born in Lisbon, Rego studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and later settled in the city with her husband, artist Victor Willing. Her work often explored themes of gender, power, and social issues, and she was particularly interested in the lives of women and children. Rego's style was characterized by bold colors, expressive brushwork, and a sense of narrative storytelling. She was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts and was awarded the Order of Merit by the Portuguese government.
