The Death of Ananias (detail), 1515. Painting by the Italian High Renaissance artist (Raphael), Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520). Ananias and his wife Sapphira were, according to the Acts of the Apostles chapter 5, members of the early Christian church in Jerusalem. The account records their sudden deaths after lying to the Holy Spirit about money.
