Collection Overview

The National Galleries of Scotland holds over 100,000 artworks which are proudly displayed in three locations in Edinburgh, the Scottish National Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, and the Portrait Gallery.

We look after one of the world’s finest collections of Western art ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day including the national collection of Scottish art. We care for, develop, research and display the national collection of Scottish and international art and, with a lively and innovative programme of activities, exhibitions, education and publications, aims to engage, inform and inspire the broadest possible public.
