- 1 January: The Euro, introduced in 1999, quickly became one of the world's most widely used currencies.
- 11 February: Whitney Houston, who sold over 220 million records, passed away in 2012. In 2023, Rolling Stone named her the second-greatest singer of all time.
- 9 March: Born in 1964, Juliette Binoche is an acclaimed French actress, winning an Academy Award for "The English Patient" and a César Award for "Three Colors: Blue”.
- 8 April: In 1941, the British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood was born. Westwood is known for bringing the punk music style of the 1970s into the world of fashion.
- 25 April: Liberation Day in Italy on April 25th marks the end of Nazi and Fascist rule in 1945, celebrating Italy's liberation and transition to democracy.
- 10 May: Nelson Mandela is inaugurated as president after being freed from prison. Mandela, who became South Africa’s first black president at the age of 77 in 1994, helped end the apartheid system of racial segregation in South Africa.
- 5 July: Dolly the Sheep is born in 1996. Scientists at Scotland's Roslin Institute became the first to successfully clone a mammal.
- 25 July: Louise Joy Brown, the first "test-tube baby," is born through in vitro fertilization (IVF) in 1978. IVF is now one of the most popular options to help many conceive.
- 31 August: Princess Diana's anniversary, following her death in 1997. Princess Diana re-invented the role of royalty, going beyond her duties, particularly in the realms of HIV/AIDS awareness and mental health. She continues to be an inspiration for many.
- 8 September: The late Queen Elizabeth II dies aged 96 after 70 years on the throne in 2022. Queen Elizabeth was the longest reigning British monarch.
- 3 October: East and West Berlin were finally reunited in 1990, having been separated for over 45 years. The anniversary of this reunification marks a pivotal moment in history, symbolizing the end of decades of division.
- 26 November: Renowned singer Tina Turner, later known as the ‘Queen of Rock and Roll’, was born in 1939. Turner went on to sell over 100 million records worldwide and won 12 Grammy Awards.
- 1 December: Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on a bus in 1955. This brave act resulted in a 381 day bus boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr, and later changes to civil rights laws.
- 18 December: In 1946, the American filmmaker Steven Spielberg was born. Spielberg is best known for his movies such as "Jaws," "E.T.," and "Schindler's List," which have earned him numerous awards and cemented his legacy in cinema history.
