La Pagoda de Chanteloup - Pagoda of Chanteloup - La Pagoda de Chanteloup is a monument dedicated to the 44-metre high Friendship built by the Duke of Choiseul in 1775, after his exile from the court of King Louis XV, in homage to all his friends who had attested to him their fidelity. The Domaine de Chanteloup was also home to an 18th century castle, which was destroyed in 1823. The Pagoda (built in 1775) is all that remains of the great castle belonging to the Duke of Choiseul. Banned from Versailles by King Louis XV, it built this 44 meters high monument, dedicated to his remaining faithful friends.
