Oil painting on canvas, An Army Officer and Attendant with his Horse in the background (possibly Sir Charles Brudenell-Bruce, later 1st Marquess of Ailesbury, KT, MP (1773-1856)), British school, early 19th century. He wears the Waterloo medal. In the background are his charger and groom. Charles Brudenell-Bruce, 1st Marquess of Ailesbury was born on 14 February 1773 at Seamore Place, Mayfair, London, England. He was the son of Thomas Brudenell-Bruce, 1st Earl of Ailesbury and Susanna Hoare. He was baptised on 24 February 1773 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England. He married, (i) Henrietta Maria Hill, daughter of Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick of Attingham and Anna Vernon, on 10 April 1793 at Florence, Italy.She was the mother of the 2nd and 3rd Marquesses and died in 1831. He married (ii) Maria Elizabeth Tollemache, daughter of Hon. Charles Tollemache and Gertrude Florinda Gardiner, on 20 August 1833 at Ham House, Petersham, Surrey, England. He died on 4 January 1856 at age 82 at Tottenham Park. He was buried on 12 January 1856 at Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, England.
